UK Authors Writer of the Month. July 2008 - Emma (Emerald)

Image:Emerald.jpg

I’ve been puzzling over what to write for a biography. I can’t say that I have ever done anything earth shattering in my life apart from leaping out of an airplane once strapped to a very hunky instructor. A wonderful experience in more ways than one.

I live in a rather crumbling old house with my three sons, one Irish Setter and two black cats, one of which suffers from a Napoleon complex - one of the cats, not my sons although that is debatable at times.

I work part-time these days as Enregistreur des Naissances, Mariages et Décès, a job which I enjoy and fills my house with musty old leather registers. I rather fell into this, as I seem to fall into most things, by accident. My previous jobs were in music and music therapy for children, plus the odd bit of secretarial work to help keep the pennies rolling.

I love reading and writing, I suppose it could be described as a quite time consuming hobby in a lot of ways. I don’t expect to ever earn anything by my writing, although I admit in the early days I had dreams of finding fame and fortune but soon very quickly realised that poets are rarely rich! That suits me in a funny sort of way as I feel that my writing is very much influenced by who I am. I sometimes chuckle too think what some of the poets of years past would think about how their poetry is interpreted today. Although I don’t expect posterity in writing, I think by just writing, you are in a way putting a part of yourself on record. A sort of, I was here aspect to it. I love writing and because I love it, I can’t take it as seriously as perhaps some would think I should. If that were to happen, then I feel I would lose the reason why I write.

Munky Business...

Ask Unkle Munky.

Unkle Munky deals with a whole multitude of agonising problems, problems that would leave other, so called ‘professional’ counsellors floundering. Watch your back Claire Rayner! Updated on a daily basis, (agony permitting) we hesitantly introduce, Ask Unkle Munky.

Welcome
  • WIKI is probably the most versatile marketing tool on the internet today (think WIKI Encyclopaedia).

It's easy to use, no knowledge of html is needed and anyone can add pages, information, links and images, or edit what is already there. Feel free to add/edit anything and everything you feel might be useful and informative for the Prose and Poetry writer, such as reviews [3], markets [4] and competitions [5].

For published authors too, WIKI can be used as an extremely effective marketing tool. Simply register and begin making your own pages and uploading your book reviews, cover images and anything else that might help promote your book.

  • Above are a few categories to help you start. We'll be adding many more over the next few days. You can, too!
